Protect yourself from Holiday Scams and Fraud!

 

As holiday shopping season hits its peak, be prepared for Black Friday and Cyber Monday and stay financially secure. 

Daily, thousands of people fall for fraudulent emails, texts, and calls from scammers. Many pretend to be from your bank, insurance provider or other services. It's important to continue raising awareness and educating yourself to avoid becoming a victim of fraud - especially during the holiday season: 

Think before you click!
Beware of fraudulent messages concerning your account, suspicious transactions or communications regarding payment issues. 

  • Online shopping: Before making an online purchase, ensure the website uses secure technology. At checkout, verify the web address begins with https and look for a tiny locked padlock symbol on the page.
  • Know the sender: Do not click links or open unexpected attachments from senders you don’t recognize, or that were forwarded as part of an email chain.
  • Holiday scams: During the holidays, criminals create fake emails for deals that are too good to be true. Clicking on these links could lead to being asked for payment information leading to fraud, or malware downloaded onto your device. 

CCB will never ask for the following via email, text or phone call: 
PINs, account numbers, passwords, usernames, birthdays, social security numbers, security question answers, one-time security code, etc. Protect this information if someone contacts you claiming to be from a financial organization. Please note: You may be asked to verify confidential information if you call your bank, but never the other way around. Set up alerts for notifications about transactions, merchants, threshold amounts and more via Country Club Bank's mobile and online banking.

Never share your login credentials for person-to-person payment apps like Zelle, Venmo, Paypal, CashApp, or others. Fraudsters commonly entice individuals to provide login credentials by saying they need it to process a refund, for example. Once they have access, they can quickly transfer money to another account. 

Take advantage of the security tools within Online and Mobile Banking to protect your accounts:

  • Card Controls allows you to easily turn your debit card off when you're not using it. 
  • To set up Transaction Alerts log in to online banking and go to the Customer Service tab, then click Manage Alerts.
